We were delighted to be chosen as the first flagship event of Clare County of Culture and we are very grateful to Clare County Council for choosing us.
John Joyce was moved to pen these lines after his visit to Consairtín 2016:
Went up to Ennis for the Consairtin Convention
To have a good time was our only intention
The town it was heaving with small boxes galore
Everyone was happy, you couldn’t ask for more.
There were concerts and sessions by day and by night
And even a soiree which was by candlelight,
The workshops were full of those keen to improve
And after the classes they were into the groove.
I met Christy Mac who was home from New York,
And also Niall Vallely who had come up from Cork.
Dr. Gearoid was master of all he surveyed
That maestro John Williams, great music he played.
In The Old Ground we gathered for Dympna’s life to recall,
With music and stories that touched one and all.
Joan Hanrahan our host about who it can only be said,
Was so dignified and strong in this tribute she led.
The concert in glor was a wonderful show,
The music was sublime with a magical flow,
At the end of the night there was a standing ovation,
What talent we have for a small little nation.
In the Rowan Tree we gathered beneath the dimmed light,
So many musicians twas a wonderful sight.
There was singing and dancing and tunes in great store,
And John Lynch to greet you as you walked in the door.
Tim Collins and Aine Hensey can really stand proud,
For people were singing their praises out loud.
We’ll be back next year did I forget to mention,
In Ennis that is for the Consairtin Convention.
