CREATIVE CONCERTINAS

Re-imagining the boundaries of tradition, our Second Saturday in April, a glór/ Consairtín co-production, explores the concertina moving across three distinct musical worlds.

Curated by musician, composer and arranger Cillian King, the programme presents the instrument in traditional, contemporary, and classical settings, revealing its remarkable versatility beyond any single genre.

From the rooted ornamentation of Irish traditional music to contemporary works shaped by jazz and modern influences, and into the structured lyricism of the western classical canon, each set offers a contrasting lens through which to hear the instrument anew.

Featuring three outstanding duos, Sinéad Mulqueen and guitarist Michael Landers present a programme grounded in traditional music; Pádraig Rynne and pianist Rory McCarthy explore contemporary repertoire shaped by improvisation and jazz influence; and Cillian King, with pianist Conor Broderick, performs works drawn from the classical tradition.

Presented as part of glór’s Second Saturday series, this concert highlights the concertina not only as a bearer of tradition, but as a dynamic voice across diverse musical forms.

Admission free. All are welcome
